I do believe Howard Dean is a sexist. He didn't want Hillary has president so he backed Obama in every way to try and make sure that didn't happen. And if you notice even through she was the most quailified candidate she wasn't picked for VP either.Of its because of sexism that this happened. And who became angry over McCain's choice Palin for VP Howard Dean.He wasn't about to let his candidate lose to someone who allow a women to have that much power.Believe it not or not the guy truly is a sexist.

I was posting about exactly that http://paulasmuniverse.wordpress.com/2008/09/01/hello-world/
And got some quite nasty comments (which I, of course, don't approve:) even more so after I blogged against the Proposition K.
It's very nice to find a blog like yours. Makes me feel less alone:)

Friends in high places, both moderators and admin.

Another stunning insight from my friend. I may not always comment, but I always appreciate your comments tremendously.

What I actually find amusing about TahitiNut is how he squeals like a stuck pig, and how loudly. What I find less amusing is that he has often been successful getting others' criticisms of him removed as "personal attacks" when they're nothing of the sort. Talk about thin skinned! Whew!

A quick comment about the repeat offender TahitiNut: He habitually redefines sexism and feminism to suit himself. That way, his comments, no matter how obnoxious, are somehow never sexist, and everyone who calls him sexist isn't really a feminist.

I truly don't understand how he has avoided getting banned from DU.

Does the "ignernt and proud of it" crowd vote?

I have family in small town Oklahoma who fit this description. They're probably loving Sarah Palin, but it doesn't worry me so much because I'm 99% sure they don't rock the vote.

What do you think?

Actually I like all four presidential contenders.

McCain is a maverick.
Palin is inexperienced, but a quick study, and nobody's fool.

Obama is dedicated to helping Americans on the home front.
Biden has a long history of experience with foreign affairs.

What it comes down to for me is:
WHICH CANDIDATES PROMISE TO END THE HUNDREDS
OF BILLIONS OF OF DOLLARS BEING POURED DOWN
THE DRAIN in Iraq, and which want to continue the war effort,
no end, no horizon in sight.

For that crucial issue, the Obama team wins hands down.
My humble opinion.
Sorry, Sarah!

I sincerely hope that the truth about this VP nominee comes to light SOON...for the stakes for the nation are far too high.

Choosing the barely vetted Palin certainly speaks to McCain's "trigger-like" judgment and if the rumors prove to have merit, they speak to Palin's character and integrity...coming out of the gate touting that she is "juggling a Blackberry and a breast-pump!"

Symbolman is a very obvious example. His prejudices are blatant and is almost continually on display.

That post you quote, in which he turns any critique or disagreement into an insulting tantrum, is very standard for him. Anyone who disagrees with him doesn't know what they're talking about, or they are twisted, or they are fringe radicals, or something. Only people who agree with him are truly calm and rational.

It would be entertaining if only so many people weren't equally bigoted. We are slightly fortunate in that most people aren't as blantant, and don't spew quite as loudly as Symbolman.

I agree with Katie Couric 100%. Sexism is rampant, and it's one of the few prejudices that is still acceptable throughout our entire society, even in its violent forms.

I give KC a whole lot of credit for saying this publicly. I hope she's getting wonderful feedback.

I had a discussion recently off-line with someone who is a moderator at DU. We were talking about prejudices posted at DU, and how the process moderators use actually protects the bigots and ensures that their posts stay up.

It takes a group decision to get stuff deleted and get someone suspended or banned. If the majority of moderators just aren't sensitive to expressions of prejudice then they overrule the one or two people who might recognize it for what it is.

We have seen it with all the homophobia and sexism they allow. Anything that isn't blatant enough for everyone's grandmother to recognize as prejudice won't be recognized and addressed. So DU becomes a haven for bigots despite what the admins and mods consider their best efforts.

But, attacking someone for being a bigot is easier for the moderators to see, and easier for them to recognize as an attack. So the bigots often get a free pass, but the people opposing bigotry get deleted and often banned.

What kind of environment would you expect when the people who stand up to sexism and homophobia keep getting banned? There are fewer and fewer people there willing to stand up to the bigotry, and the bigots essentially run the place.

The "answer" is supposed to be "Alert on the posts and let the mods handle it" but because of a flawed system the mods aren't handling it. So there are no working options for challenging bigotry at DU.

Worst of all, it's a long tiring process to get the admins to care. Skinner has said that they are discussing changes in process so they can address bigotry more effectively. I'm not going to hold my breath waiting.
