Naomi Wolf would probably think I was way too easy on Palin, and I have to say I’d trust her on that. She’s pretty damned persuasive on the issue of fascism and police states, and knows her stuff. What she says about Palin is chilling:

He done her wrong…

Well, we all noted early on how cynical and sexist McCain was to pick Palin in the first place, apparently assuming Hillary supporters would support any woman, even an anti-woman woman, just because she is a woman. Of course, he also loves her for her base appeal, but that wasn’t all of the calculus in [...]

Did you watch her speech? If not, you must, though I warn you in advance it’s a little rough. If you’re like me you too find it incredibly draining at a psychic level to be lied to repeatedly, and to have your own perfectly good, perfectly American values mocked and derided by implicaton.
While she delivered [...]

Dear Cenk –
I am not exactly a fan, but could be. I’m not a fan mainly because I haven’t been that exposed to TYT though I’ve been watching more and more YouTube clips which come to my attention since I lurk several hours each day at DU (democraticunderground.com) where the links are often posted.
I was [...]
I have a baaad feeling about this John Edwards thing
Posted in Uncategorized on August 12, 2008 | Leave a Comment »
The media exploitation of this situation is beyond disgusting, and I’m thoroughly fed up with MSNBC for their part in the feeding frenzy. But beyond that, I’m afraid I begin to smell something not very healthy.
Sad to say, I think John Edwards is lying. From just the few snippets I’ve been exposed to, it appears [...]

Almost always scantily clad. (Hmm, wonder why that is?)
I’m so terribly tired of women’s bodies being used to sell stuff. Aren’t you? This image was taken from DU a short while ago. It’s an ad (obviously), using a scantily clad disembodied portion of the female form.
I should think that this sort of “ad” wouldn’t be [...]

Just how misogynist a society are we? Well, pretty damned misogynist — barbarically misogynist, that’s all (and in fact, tonight I’m looking for a word that goes beyond barbaric). Racist and xenophobic too, of course. Here’s an unbelievable story encompassing all that and more:
Pregnant Woman Shackled During Labor for Driving Without License in Nashville, with [...]
What Are Your Favorite Movies? And why?
Posted in Uncategorized on July 20, 2008 | 2 Comments »
Right at the top of my list are Thelma and Louise and Tootsie. (Surprised? I didn’t think so.)
I also liked Big with Tom Hanks because it was intelligent but still a lot of FUN. Shawshank Redemption because it was so intelligent and so well-acted with that super-satisfying ending. But for the most part, all [...]
WHY CAN’T GAY MEN SEE IT?

Every feminist I know is heart-and-soul committed to GLBT rights as well. That pro-gay rights stance started with N.O.W. (I think) more years ago than I care to remember. N.O.W. understood, even if the membership didn’t exactly (esp. at the time), that it’s all of a piece, that sexism and homophobia are intertwined and inseparable. [...]
